We
want to show off the new variety of cosmos that we've been growing. This
cosmos sprang up in our garden in the summer of '93. Peter was in the
Antarctic the entire summer (winter down there), and Brian was 3. Needless
to say, the flower didn't get much attention and in fact didn't get any
water all summer (it popped up between the rows of drip irrigation).

But
we entered it in the Monterey County Fair and it won not only first place
in the cosmos category, but Best Overall Cut Flower! So, we gave it some
water, and saved its seeds. Not all seeds planted from the offspring come
true, but a percentage do, so we've been growing and planting this now
for 8 years.
What
is special about this flower is that it is semidouble and has a picotee
edge, with the typical cosmos color on the outside and a white inside.
