Once upon a time on the Sonlight Meeting forum, there was a thread in which we were discussing what other people thought of homeschoolers, and what our image was. Among the posts was a story of a family trip to the photgrapher. The photographer, upon finding out that the children were homeschooled, remarked, "Well you'd never know it. You seem so normal." Apparently, the previous week the photgrapher had worked with another homeschooling family and when it came time to make everyone smile he suggested they all say "Picklenose." Well, he was informed by the parents, rather icily I might add, "Our family doesn't say Picklenose."
"Picklenose" is used to refer to anyone who regularly displays an attitude that would get them grounded in this particular family. I must confess that I am regularly referred to as a "picklenose." Paula and I in particular hurl that venomous epithet at each other regularly.
