Big Creek Gate Cabin
Staff Gauge
Manually recorded stage height ("depth")
of Big Creek as measured at the staff gauge near the Big Creek
gate cabin. This staff gauge station has been extremely stable
from year to year. A reading of 1' corresponds to zero flow, approximately.
This gauge was installed in 1986 by Matt Kondolf of UC Berkeley.
A reading of 1.4' corresponds to a flow rate af about 6 cf/s,
and a reading of 1.98' corresponds to a flow of about 42 cf/s
(see depth/flow page).
At a reading of 4' the creek is approximately 20' wide and moves
at about 7 miles/hr. We have data going back to 1986. We also
have automated data for several years in the early 90's.
