Musings of a Spiritual Warrior

17 December 1999

Hmm ... This makes several days in a row.  Perhaps this is the start of a new trend ... a preview of what is in store for the coming year.  I'm still flying high and am energized to take action, to do something.  I still don't know what to do, but I will soon enough.  Such is how it works in my life anyway.  It seems I'm not given the details until it is time for the expression to be made manifest.  It is difficult focussing on other than my spiritual tasking when I'm in this state.  Everything else is dull by comparison.  So dull that nothing else comes close to competing for my attention.  What can I do when I'm in such states?  The only answer I have found is to allow them to play themselves out and express what I am moved to express.

I've reached a point where I desire to integrate my work life and my home life in a better manner.  Going off each week to work and returning only on weekends is not an acceptable way to live.  It keeps me in a 2-5 pattern and has served it's purposes, but it has been over three years now.  Enough is enough.  I should be able to live close to where I work, or even be able to work at home when I chose to.  I don't know how to do this without somehow running my own business ... and I don't know what services I can offer to bring in sufficient salary to live comfortably.  Perhaps just opening up to the possibility is sufficient ... and noticing the opportunities that come into my reality.

What can I do?  I can work with ideas.  I can teach others by example.  I can fulfill the role of philosopher king.  But who pays for such services in the present world?  Good question.  Is there a way to provide the services first ... to do the job, trusting that the universe will come up with the paycheck when the time is right?  Yes, there is.  To some degree, my Beyond Imagination work has been just that - a spiritual job that I volunteered to do.  Now, it seems I'm exerting more demands than this.  I'm asking that this be more than a volunteer position ... that it be a full-paying job.  Further, I'm asking that it be my fulltime job, rather than something that only occupies my spare time.

Midwife for the birth of a new age.  That is a very important position;  one that should be very well compensated if it is done correctly.  However, how much time and effort does such a job require?  As we get close to the birth, the job requires more and more effort to the point where it is completely demanding of one's time and effort.  Deep down, I knew that.  But the very nature of the work is exciting to me ... so much so that this is truly a labor of love.  I'm willing and ready to devote as much time as it takes.  The task is that important to me and to the World.  My sense is that abundance will be my reward, as it always has been.  Spirit has indeed been kind to me all of my life.  I've only had a handful of jobs in my entire working life.  In all cases, there was no real choice in moving from job to job.  The next job was the only possibility ... there was nothing to choose between.  Through it all, the salary keeps going up.  Last year, 41 was a key number in my compensation especially since it occurred in my 41st year.  This year, 91 fills that role.  91 is Death Exalted, a time for a major transformation.

What am I worth?  What is anyone worth?  What makes one person's labor worth $5.50 per hour and anothers $5500?  It boggles the mind that there can be such differences as several orders of magnitude.  Literally, some people make as much in a day as other make in a year.  What is fair about this?  Who said the economic system has to be fair?  Is there not a concept of equality that comes into play here?  How can we come close to being equals with disparities this great?  Supply and demand ... a key principle of the capitalist market economy results in such disparity.  Services are priced competitively at what the market will bear.  There is no overall governing body that ensures the services are worth what they cost.  The bottom line is that we all pay for all of these services.  Collectively, we pay the bills for all the lawyers, all the doctors, all the musicians, all the scientists and engineers, all of the government workers, all of the restaurant and fast food workers ... EVERYONE.  No, we don't do this directly in many cases.  We do it through our taxes, through our insurance, and through the prices that we pay for goods and services.  In many cases, these costs are hidden as part of doing business.  For example, many big businesses have whole legal staffs supporting them.

One answer to the worth question is that one is worth whatever someone else is willing to pay for one's services.  However, most jobs are not tailored to individuals and don't necessarily make full use of an individuals talents and abilities.  The bottom line answer is  that my worth is infinite ... or, at the very least, it is sufficient to accommodate having my needs met.  This doesn't really answer the question however.  Worth has to be more than in terms of dollars.  It has to include the richness of the web of reality in which one exists.  This richness can occur in many ways and at many levels.

What is it that limits the abundance one experiences in life?  What determines whether one makes 50k, 100k, or 200k per year?  These are very different numbers that support very different levels of material lifestyle.  The concept of "trappings" comes to mind.  Material lifestyle and spiritual lifestyle are very different things.  It seems that with the right frame of mind, one can be rich at virtually any level of "trappings".  In some cases, it may even be more difficult to maintain one's focus as one climbs the material success ladder.  One thing many people complain of these days is the lack of free time in their life.  There is exactly as much time as there always has been.  However, there is a large difference in the number of things competing for that time.  This results in too much to do, and too little time to do it.  The reality is that more of a focus on NOW is necessary to allow one to deal with each thing that needs to be done.  In many cases, people waste time doing things of limited value and then don't have time to apply to things that are critical.  This requires education and prioritization to overcome.  Further, cooperation would allow many things to be done more efficiently as a service to a group that now get done less adequately by  individuals.  Product research is a particular case in point.  Why should 1 million families research what computer they should buy for Christmas, when a small group of people could do the comparisons in a manner that could serve all of these families.

We are very poor at generating and sharing information. As a result, we have many people doing the same thing over and over again. This is a very poor use of resources that we simply should not tolerate. Sharing can benefit many, but we need to find ways that make it easy to do. With the WWW, it is very easy to make information available. However, there is no real quality control over the information that is shared. Also, most people do not yet operate out of a sense of altruism ... so there is usually a catch, some service or goods that are being sold. Here, one must learn where the honest sources are, sources whose information one can trust. Initially, this may be more difficult than just doing the research and comparison shopping oneself. On the way home, I heard an ad from someone that has a website that allows people to comparison shop cellular telephone services so that they can decide on the plan that is best for them. It was not clear what the company gains by providing this service unless they get a percentage from any referrels that come through the site. Perhaps this is where it starts ... service by service, with entrepreneurs creating the sites that allow the comparison shopping. Anything that makes life easier is good. I'm sure we'll be seeing more and more such services in the future. We truly are living in an information age. It is appropriate that information services become of increasing value.
