Musings of a Spiritual Warrior

8 January 2002

The string continues, another day of being moved to write.  I'm definitely experiencing a state that I have not experienced in some time.  There is a lightness in my step, a purpose in my existence once again.  This expression is that important to me.  It consumes me, but in a good way.  It is great to feel this excited about life.  The sense is that I should take advantage of the peak while it is here for as long as I can.  I am renewed and refreshed in spirit.  Yes, it is a great time to be alive.  Too bad I can't feel this way all of the time.  But then again, perhaps I can.  After all, what is stopping me?  Ahh ... but there are cycles which have their highs and lows.  Being bipolar, this may be felt more strongly by me than by most.  However, there is a sense that just as for alternating current, we can make positive use of all parts of the cycle if we operate correctly.  For electricity, this involves using a decommutator, a device which switches the direction every half cycle.  Hmm ... I wonder what the corresponding device/concept in consciousness is for this.

It is curious that my formal background is in electrical engineering and computer science... which in many ways are the study of cycles and their objective use.  My informal pursuit of numerology and astrology has balanced this, by exploring the meaning of cycles from a more subjective perspective.  It is important to engage both sides of ones brain in any endeavor, to see things from a more balanced whole.  That is what I am driven to do anyway.  The big picture is not contained in what we experience as objective reality.  Similarly, subjective experience does not necessarily provide insight into the objective world that is the common background and setting for experience.  Both logic and feeling/intuition have their roles in life.  Both need their avenues of expression.  Further, it helps if this can be done in an integrated manner.  After all, we are ONE individual, not just a collection of independent parts.

I'm still moved to address the overall theme of what it takes to create a better world.  The first step seems to be to recognize that there are limitations and conditions in the present world that we want to change.  The idea that our world is a reflection of us, comes to mind as appropriate here.  If we truly want to change the world, the place to start is by changing ourselves.  We will see soon enough, that when we change, our world changes as well to reflect whom that we have become.  Nothing is static, everything is balanced.  As above, so below ... as inner, so will be outer.  Cosmic law is at play here.  And that is what reality creation should be, play.  It should engage the child within us.  As individuals, this is where we have the most power and control.  The world may be a big place, but our self is a much smaller domain, in which we have the authority to do what we will and be whom we are and become what we are capable of becoming.  This is not hard work.  It is a natural process.  The acorn knows exactly what it takes to become a mighty oak tree ... all it takes is the right environment to nurture its growth.  Similarly the seed of spirit or consciousness that sparked us, knows exactly what we are meant to grow to be and how to get us there.  It is a matter of trusting in the process.  However, part of the process is to get gardeners to plant the seeds and tend the crops, and a natural system that provides sufficient water and sunlight for the plant to grow.  For people, this involves parents, teachers, and the whole social system in which we live.  We need this to be supportive of each individual.  This occurs if each of us takes responsibility for providing our share of support to others.  This may be to family members and friends at first, but should not stop there.  At some point, we must realize that our collective responsibility extends to the entire world.  We are truly one family of humankind occupying one planet, Earth.  A song comes to mind, but I just can't seem to remember the words ... something about there being no boundaries when we observe the Earth from a distance in space.  Country boundaries are somewhat arbitrary lines that we have placed on our maps and globes.  They have arisen from agreements and territorial wars.

As our founding fathers said ... "all men are created equal".  There is a sense that this should apply to all of humankind.  Further, this should entitle each person on the planet to their fair share of the resources on the planet.  Clearly, the economy of the world does not support this ideal.  That doesn't make the ideal any less real.  Why should it matter what resources lie within the boundaries of the country in which one happens to be born?  Why does being born into one country entitle one to much more than being born into another country?  Clearly, this is not fair and equitable.  Yet, it is how the world is.  Even within a country, why do a few people control the majority of the resources and the wealth?  Why do we allow such great differences between the haves and have nots?  Surely there is a better way to share of the collective abundance so that we all experience more.  In fact, there should be ways to cooperate that result in greatly expanded abundance that all may share.  However, this does not mean raising the world to the standard of living that the United States experiences.  We are far too wasteful, and consume far more than our share of resources ... particularly natural resources and energy.  Further, it is not clear that the material abundance that we experience truly make our lives more satisfying, productive, and happy.  It is not clear that collectively we are even close to being as creative as we could be.  Many are definitely not challenged by their work ... or their lives for that matter.  We are wasteful of our most important natural resource; the talents, abilities, and creative energies of our people.  This is the area where the most improvement is needed ... yet, it is not clear that much effort or focus is being expended in this area.

Abundance occurs on all four planes of existence; physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.  It seems that each individual has a natural predisposition as to what areas are most important to them.  In general, needs must be fulfilled in each of the four areas in the order listed.  If one is struggling with physical existence, it is hard to focus on "higher" emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of life.  If one is having emotional problems, it is difficult thinking clearly or seeing things from a spiritual perspective.

Early in the Beyond Imagination writings, the following Dream was expressed.  It still plays a major part in my life, guiding where I focus my attention and efforts.  My sense is that it is a vision of what is to be ... not in some distant future, but in my lifetime.  And, I don't see my lifetime lasting much beyond 2025 or so.  Of course, that is far enough away that who knows what might be ... besides, my predictions have a history of being wrong when they involve me and specific timing.

I dream of a world united in love, peace, and harmony;

where people are equal and receive what they need
physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually;

where people are employed in a manner that engages their natural abilities
and talents fully for the good of both the individual and the society;

where people are happy and free;  where people are helpful to one another;

where industry operates in harmony with nature,
righting the damages caused due to excesses in the past;

where governments are efficient and honest,
and truly represent the rights of the people.

The vision is just as strong now as when it first came through ... perhaps even stronger.  I do believe we can collectively create a world that works like this, and that we can do it in a period of decades if not years.  The sense is that positive change can happen very quickly when suitable motivation drives it.  And, it seems that we will be pushed by very strong forces to either fix major problems and inequalities or suffer the consequences.  Always the optimist, I believe we will choose to make the necessary changes to create a better world for all of us.  Though, I suppose that some may feel that this world may not be better for them.  Being equal may be a scary concept for some, especially those in positions of power, and those with more than their fair share of material wealth.  Yet, equality does not mean that everyone makes the same income, or lives in identical sized houses, or gets the same education, or has the same or equivalent positions.  These are dependent on what one does with ones abilities, and how one uses ones talents to serve others.  Theoretically, we could all live in mansions ... but for most of us, the overhead and cost of keeping them up is simply not worth it.  What we need is a decent home in a neighborhood we like to live in; with a job that we like to do that provides us with sufficient income to get the goods, services, and experiences that  we and our families need to live a comfortable and happy life.  It also helps to have suitable stimulation to grow physically, emotionally, mentally, and especially spiritually.

This means that poverty is unacceptable and that we collectively are responsible for ridding our world of it.  This also means that war is unacceptable and it is up to us to find alternate ways to resolve our differences.  Further, this means that many social systems, especially education and the economy need to greatly improve so that they provide much better and more equitable services to people.  These are all things that can be done giving sufficient resolve.  However, it is not clear that they will be done unless we tell our representatives that we want them done.  Even then, it is not clear that our government has sufficient scope of responsibility to change the things that need to be changed.  At the very least, we can impact the government including its myriad of federal and state agencies, and the education system.  We can also impact the economy to some degree via appropriate regulation ... though it is not clear that economists to date truly know what they are doing.  The thing that will be most difficult is the establishment of a social contract that individuals can trust and believe in.  Yet, without this, everything else is nothing more than applying bandaids.

Of course, the most fundamental thing that needs to be changed would also be the most difficult.  It requires building a trust between people on a massive scale.  Many have a negative perspective on human nature.  This will somehow need to be overcome. From my perspective, this is shortsighted and incorrect.  Overall, people are kind and good.  They make choices that they believe to be right.  Perhaps their belief systems are limited, naive, and less empowering than they could be ...but this can be changed with proper education.  Also, fear is a major determining factor in how most people live.  This is an area that requires substantial work.  People should not have to be afraid, but the conditions of the country and the world are such that there seems to be no other choice.  For far too many, the world does not appear to be safe, loving, and supportive.  This has to change but it is not yet clear how to do this in the United States ... much less in the less developed countries in the world.

How many of us need to adopt a principle for it to have sufficient power to impact the mass consciousness?  My sense is that it is far less than a minority.  The initial group is like a seed, that will of its own accord allow the principle to grow and become manifest in the world.  There is an idea of critical mass that comes to mind.  This is the idea that one an idea has infested a certain number of people, it is conveyed to the whole species.  Some may know this as the hundredth monkey syndrome.  There is a sense that this principle is indeed operating ... that many are being exposed to the key foundational principles needed to create a new world.  It is only a matter of time before the number who have accepted the necessary principles is sufficient to physically manifest them throughout the world.

I AM THAT I AM THAT YOU ARE!   Be Happy and Create Well!
