Paul calls the gospel of Jesus Christ: my gospel!
Romans 11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
Romans 16:25 Now to him that is of power to establish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.
Anyone reading these two verses can no longer falsely claim the earthly ministry of Jesus and the twelve as their own; The apostle Paul wrote these words as he was directed to do so by the Holy Spirit.
This is Paul's Gospel of Jesus Christ in a Nutshell:
1Corinthians 15:1-4
v1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand v2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. v3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; v4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Why we must understand Paul's Gospel.
If the holy Spirit did not want Paul to call the gospel that he preached my gospel on three separate occasions, I am sure, Scripture would show a different word in it's place. The best reason for Paul's calling the gospel that he preached my gospel is: to show the difference between the gospel that he preached and the gospel that the twelve preached! Always remember that all Scripture is God breathed, and God the Holy Spirit is the author of all Scripture.
Romans 16:25 Now to him that is of power to establish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
The Lord Jesus revealed His mystery gospel to the apostle Paul from heaven. He also Revealed end time things to the apostle John for the Nation Israel from heaven.
The revelation of the mystery teaches us that all who believe the gospel, that Paul preached are baptized into the body of Christ without a drop of water; therefore we are saved and sealed by the Holy Spirit. If taking Jesus into your heart means, believe the gospel, 1Cor.15:1-4 then it is good information. The Lord Jesus gave us the apostle Paul for this new dispensation. That would put all mankind on the same level. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile; because the two make up the one new man in Christ Jesus.
All who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ's finished work on the cross; His death burial, resurrection and ascension back to the Father's right hand are baptized by the Holy Spirit and placed into the body of Christ. Therefore God says through the apostle Paul every man that is in Christ is a new creation old things are passed away behold all things have become new. Have you ever wondered why the Scriptures say, we must follow the apostle Paul as he followed the Lord Jesus Christ? Better yet, why do the Scriptures say, if Paul's gospel is hid it is hid to them that are lost?
My friend the apostle Paul's writings come directly from the Lord Jesus Christ; they are all Holy Spirit inspired, that means the Holy Spirit inspired every word that the apostle Paul wrote. And furthermore the apostle Peter verified that all of Paul's writings are Scripture, according to 2 Peter 3:15-16. I can not over state the importance of adhering to Paul's gospel. If Paul's gospel is hid it is hid to them that are lost; because their minds have been blinded by the god of this world, Satan.
Do you understand what I am trying to say? Do you know of a better way for the Holy Spirit to make 2Corinthians 4:3 any clearer for us? Paul said, if our gospel be hid it is hid to them that are lost. But, keep in mind when Paul says our gospel he is speaking of the gospel that the Lord Jesus Christ revealed to him alone. Paul's gospel is not part of the gospel of the kingdom that the Lord Jesus and the twelve preached. The Holy Spirit admonishes us to follow Paul, as he followed Christ. That is why God calls Paul our pattern for everlasting life.
1. 1Corinthians 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
2. 2Corinthians 4:3-4 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: v4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
3. 2Peter 3:15-16. and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, v16. as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
In the dispensation of grace, Jesus Christ gave the gospel of the grace of God to the apostle Paul. Look who Peter says twists and distorts the gospel in his day; they are the untaught and the unstable the very same folks that twist and distort it today, small wonder!
Romans 2:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Here again is the basic gospel of Jesus Christ that He gave to the
apostle Paul.
And that is why Paul calls it: "my gospel"
1Corinthians 15:1-4
v1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand. v2, By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. v3. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; v4. And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Romans 16:25-26
v25. Now to him that is of power to establish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret since the world began, v26. But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
Paul used the phrase according to my gospel three times. Three other times he called it, our gospel. But, keep in mind our gospel only refers to the gospel that was given to him for all mankind. Paul's gospel is not a part of the gospel of the kingdom given to the twelve. If you want to read the complete gospel of Jesus Christ for the Gentiles, then read Romans through Philemon because it can not be found anywhere else in the Scriptures!
Paul put the gospel of the grace of God in print for all mankind. Paul made it known to all that received the gospel; that it came directly from the risen and glorified Lord Jesus. Paul was chosen by the Lord Jesus Christ and sent to the Gentiles, Paul is the apostle of the Gentiles. His gospel is the preaching of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery.
The Lord Jesus already had twelve apostles for the nation Israel that He could have used but, Israel would not believe. But now, Christ's message changes, He turned to the Gentiles and He chose the apostle Paul, an apostle, not of the twelve and He chose him out side of the nation Israel, thereby putting a separation or partition between the gospel of the kingdom and the gospel of the grace of God. Furthermore Christ never commissioned the twelve to preach the gospel of the grace of God.
The twelve only preached Christ after the flesh, His earthly message to the Jews only. Therefore Paul says we do not know Christ after the flesh. The Lord Jesus taught the twelve the gospel of the kingdom when He walked with them here on planet earth. But we must keep in mind, the Lord Jesus Christ's teaching on earth was to none but the lost sheep of the house of Israel under the law.
Therefore Christ could have nothing to do with the Gentiles in His earthly ministry, because the Gentiles were aliens from the commonwealth of Israel; and they had no hope, they were without God in the world. Paul is Christ's spokesman for the dispensation of the grace of God, and he is the apostle of the Gentiles, therefore he is our apostle.
Paul received the ministry of reconciliation, from the risen and glorified Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. Now, can you see that Paul's gospel is Christ's heavenly message to all mankind. It is the only message or gospel for the world today. Don't worry, the rest of Scripture is given for our learning, but Paul's message is for our appropriation.
The Lord Jesus revealed the mystery gospel to the apostle Paul. Therefore Paul tells us that he did not receive it from man; that he received all of his training directly from the risen and glorified Lord Jesus Christ in heaven by revelation. Christ taught the twelve personally and face to face for three years in Israel. But Christ taught Paul in Arabia for three years and it too may have been face to face Scripture does not say. Paul is the only apostle that got a glimpse of heaven.
Below are the three verses in which Paul calls the gospel that he preached "my gospel".
The Lord Jesus Christ charged the apostle Paul with a better gospel for the Gentiles; the gospel of the grace of God. The Holy Spirit inspired Paul to call the gospel he preached, "my gospel". Do not be deceived Paul's gospel is not the same gospel that Christ and the twelve preached here on earth, their gospel was called the gospel of the circumcision or the gospel of the Kingdom. Paul's gospel or good news is for the church the body of Christ and it is the only gospel for the world today.
Romans
2:16 In the day when God
shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my
gospel.
Romans 16:25 Now to him that is of power to establish
you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ,
according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret
since the world began.
2-Timothy 2:8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
Paul is the only apostle commissioned by the Lord Jesus Christ to preach His heavenly gospel, the gospel of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery. Paul called several of his helpers apostles; but they were not of the twelve. Peter said, that Paul's mystery gospel was hard to be understood; probably because it was not under the law. Peter in his final days tells the Jews that all of Paul's epistles are Scripture and that they should go to them for salvation.
2Peter 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable twist, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
I believe that in order to separate the gospel of the grace of God and the gospel of the kingdom; God put a lack of
understanding on the part of the twelve. But God gave the twelve just enough understanding to know that Paul's
gospel was Scripture. God did not want the twelve to pervert
Paul's gospel. The gospel of the kingdom was not for Paul's converts.
Because it was under the law. That teaching was for the Jews only, but it was quickly fading away.
Don't be confused! Before the apostle Paul's conversion and appointment
as the apostle of the Gentiles; the Gentiles had no hope they were lost, they
had no part in the covenants of promise made with the house of Israel. Look at Ephesians 2:12-13.
Ephesians 2:12-13 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: v13. But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
We know that the twelve failed to win Israel to Christ, therefore their program and the nation was set aside and the Lord Jesus Christ chose a new apostle for all the world. God saved the apostle Paul outside of the nation of Israel and appointed him as the apostle of the Gentiles.
Don't forget, the Lord Jesus Christ is our Savior. But, He appointed the apostle Paul as our pattern for everlasting life. Therefore we should become completely familiar with all of Paul's writings. Although we should not neglect the other Scriptures, they are written for our learning.
2Corinthians 4:3-4, are two verses that we almost always ignore, some so called Christians stay in the Old Testament and the four Gospels. For some strange reason they seem to avoid the apostle Paul like the plague. But don't forget, God the Holy Spirit tells us that Paul is our apostle and we will be rewarded by adhering to Paul's gospel.
Romans 2:16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
2-Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: v4. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
What Gospel?
A very good question would be: What gospel is Paul talking about; is it the kingdom gospel or is it some other gospel? It is, some other gospel, it is the gospel of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery it is the gospel of the grace of God. It is the only gospel for the world today!
2Timothy 3:16-17. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: v17. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Which gospel should I follow? It is very clear that the gospel of the grace of God that Paul preached is the one that we must follow. Because it is the gospel of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery. Another excellent question would be: what
does Paul mean when he says lost ? Well, frankly,
he means exactly what he says, because if Paul's gospel,
is hid, from you, you are not saved you are lost.
But we still hear folks saying,
Paul's writings should not even be in our Bible. If you are a person of that
persuasion may I caution you again? You can not find salvation for a Gentile in any other
Scriptural writings other than Paul's.
Actually Christ's earthly ministry was to the Jews only to fulfil the promises made to the fathers. And that did not include you
and me. This did not change until after Christ's death, burial, resurrection
and ascension back to the Father.
Only then could He send salvation to the Gentiles apart from the law of Moses. But according to 2Corinthians 4:3 without Paul's gospel we would still be lost. If Paul's gospel is hid it is hid to them that are lost. Remember what Peter said, 2Peter 3:16, all of Paul's epistles are Scripture. You might want to look again at 2 Peter 3:15-16.
My friend, Paul's gospel is definitely not the gospel of the kingdom; that so many so-called Christians cling to. Actually the gospel of the kingdom is not ours. Verses three and four tells us that Paul got his gospel, from the Lord Jesus in heaven. Here we find the purpose of his death burial and resurrection. He died for the sins of the world. The apostle Paul was charged with teaching us this good news of Christ's death, burial, resurrection and ascension and what it means to us. Read these verses 2Corinthians 4:3-4 for your self it says it much better than I can.
Don't Be Ignorant!
Paul
urges us not to be ignorant and not to be deceived. Because in the dispensation
of the Grace of God, we can not be
saved by believing the gospel of the kingdom or by any other so called gospels. God gave us one baptism one apostle and He gave us the one gospel that the apostle Paul preached for our salvation; further more the kingdom gospel
is set aside until the tribulation.
1Thessolonians
1:5 For our gospel came
not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy
Spirit, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we
were among you for your sake.
2Thessolonians 2:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel,
to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In previous verses we found Paul's basic gospel set forth, in 1Corinthians 15:1-4. This is the only gospel that brings salvation to the world today, and the law of Moses is not included. It brings salvation to the Jews also with out the law of Moses. Without Paul's gospel, we can not-be saved! You must understand that! Without Paul's gospel, we can not be saved!!! Paul's gospel is the gospel of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery. See 1Corinthians 15, verse 2: Therefore if Paul's gospel is hid, it is hid to them that are lost, they are those who have believed in vain.
Mark 10:17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
Mark 10:19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor thy father and mother.
2. (Gospel number two), Is the gospel of Jesus Christ the gospel of the grace of God, it is Paul's gospel for the world today. It is also called the gospel of the uncircumcision: Our requirements are simply: believe in the Lord Jesus Christ's finished work on the cross: He died was buried and He arose again after three nights and three days, and that He ascended back to the Father's right hand to make intercession for us, this is what we must believe to be saved.
When Paul says, according to the Scriptures, he is of course, referring is to the Old Testament Scriptures. This is one good reason not to neglect the Old Testament, because it is for our learning, also it will give us a better understanding of what Paul was talking about when he says, according to the Scriptures. We are admonished by the Holy Spirit to study to show ourselves approved unto God workmen that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of Truth.
2Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
When
we rightly divide the Word of Truth we study the entire Bible separating Paul's writing's from the others, know to whom the scriptures are speaking. then we can better understand the whole truth
of God's Word for today.
Romans
15:4 For whatsoever things
were written aforetime
were written for our learning, that we through patience and
comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
What is the Jews confession?
The Jews were required to believe the confessions of: Peter, John and Martha's listed below for salvation. Remember a Jew is a Hebrew that keeps the law.
John
11:27 She saith unto him,
Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God,
which should come into the world.
John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe
that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through
his name.
Look at these three confessions! Did you see any mention of Christ's death, burial, resurrection and ascension for salvation? John did not mention it, Peter and Martha did not mention it, because, they had only to believe in His name; that He was who he said He was, that He was the Christ the Son of the living God and they had to keep the law.
What is the Gentile's Confession of faith?
But, the Gentiles are saved under a different administration. Which is the ministry of Jesus Christ from heaven through the apostle Paul. The requirements are different as you can see. Here are several verses, that will help explain what believe on the Lord Jesus Christ means to you and me.
Romans
10:9 That if thou shalt
confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine
heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
1-Corinthians 15:1-4:
v1. Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; v2. By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. v3. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; v4. And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Romans 16:25 Now to him that is of power to establish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.
Titus
2:11 For the grace of God
that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Therefore we have no excuse. For there is no other Scriptural writing old or new testament that has the inspired
mystery of Jesus Christ until, God revealed it to the apostle Paul by the risen and glorified Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. Now the mystery belongs to the body of Christ.
Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us...
Our Doctrine!
2Timothy chapter two and verse eight confirms that Jesus was of the seed of David and that He was raised from the dead according to Paul's gospel. Why does Paul restate all the pertinent old Testament Scriptures for us in his epistles?
Personally I believe it is because the Holy Spirit intended to give us the complete gospel for the world today in the writings of the Apostle Paul. God gave us history in the Old Testament; and the four gospels. Paul gave us the gospel of the grace of God in his epistles. Therefore we have the complete gospel for the world today.
We can not say the Old Testament is not for me. Because, Paul quotes nine of the ten commandments for our use, These commandments are the moral code for society. Remember the entire Bible is for our learning, but, the entire Bible is not for our doctrine.
Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
These verses leave us no choice but to follow Paul as he followed the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. These instructions were given to us after Christ's death, burial, resurrection and ascension back to the Fathers right hand. The ministry of the twelve has been set aside for now, awaiting the tribulation. Then the gospel of the kingdom, will be restored and it will be preached in all the world by 144000 young Jewish missionaries.
2 Corinthians 5:16-17:
v16. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. v17. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
One of the biggest stumbling blocks in all Christendom today is: How do we follow the Lord Jesus Christ? Sadly the majority has chosen to follow Him in His earthly ministry but, that is to the Jews only. But, Paul tells us, we do not even know Christ after the flesh which is His earthly ministry. Therefore, we can not be part of that ministry. We can only know Christ according to the revelation of the mystery and that is after His death, burial, resurrection and ascension back to the Fathers right hand.
No More Water Baptism!
1 Corinthians 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. We must not forget, our baptism
is without water, it is silent, it is performed by the
Holy Spirit, at the moment of salvation we are all baptized into the body of Christ. This is the ONE
Baptism spoken of in Ephesians 4:5.
Ephesians
4:5 One Lord, one faith,
one baptism,
Some say that Paul baptize some, and that is very true. But, he stopped when the Lord Jesus told him to stop. Paul's helpers did not baptize in his place as some folks would have you believe, because baptism is not for the body of Christ.
The best reason is, our sins are washed in the blood of Christ, not in the waters of baptism; the waters of baptism can not wash away sin. That washing can only come through the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are Ambassadors for Christ. We are not the nation of Israel, nor are we that Royal Priesthood. We must not claim the promises made to someone else, frankly because we are not Jews
"William R Newell-1868-1956"
"You can judge any man's preaching or teaching by this rule Is he Pauline? Does his doctrine start and finish according to those statements of Christian doctrine uttered by the Apostle Paul? No matter how wonderful a man may seem in his gifts and apparent consecration if his Gospel is not Pauline, it is not the Gospel; and we might as well get our minds settled at once as to that."
William R. Newell has stated, if a man's teaching and preaching is not Pauline, it is not the gospel, therefore it is not the truth for today. In Hebrews we are told that we can not please God with out faith. And faith is believing what God says. And My friend God says, if Paul's gospel is hid, it is hid to them that are lost.
