How to study and understand your Bible

Study the Bible Itself, not books about the Bible. The Bible is the best commentary on Itself you can read. Don't be identified by someone else's translation of what the Bible means: such as Calvin and Arminius they had their own agendas!

Miles Coverdale 1488 to1569

It will help you to understand Scriptures, if you mark not only what is spoken or written, but of whom or to whom, with what words, at what time, where, to what intent, with what circumstances, considering what goes before and what follows after.

Miles Coverdale, was the first man to translate the entire Bible into the English language. While the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is an accurate record of events and sayings of men, we must remember: All Scripture is for me. It is not all addressed to me nor is it written about me.

2Timothy 2:15. Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

William R Newell-1868 to1956

"You can judge any man's preaching or teaching by this rule: Is he Pauline? Does his doctrine start and finish according to those statements of Christian doctrine uttered by the Apostle Paul? No matter how wonderful a man may seem in his gifts and apparent consecration, if his Gospel is not Pauline, it is not the Gospel; and we might as well get our minds settled at once as to that."

One Spirit Baptism:

Why, one baptism? 1Corinthians 1:17, Paul said, for Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. Look at (1Corinthians 12:13) and (Ephesians 4:5) these verses tell you why we do not baptize in the dispensation of the grace of God. My friend, believe what God says! Look again at 1Corinthians 12:13 it tells you that the Holy Spirit does the baptizing for the church the body of Christ, and it is without water.

Yes! The Holy Spirit performs the one baptism. God said, (1Corinthians 11:1), follow Paul as he followed Christ. Therefore according to (1Corinthians 12:13), the Holy Spirit  is the only baptizer for the church the body of Christ without water. Also according to (1Corinthians 12:13) alone how can any man say water baptism has anything to do with the salvation message. At the moment of salvation we are placed into the body of Christ, with out water baptism! Baptism is not being obedient to Christ, why, for Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel. Therefore being water baptized is actually being disobedient to Christ, think about it!

Brothers and sisters in Christ, rightly divide the Word of Truth. You should listen to God, and not to men, and we will not go astray. Think about this, do you want to be baptized one time by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ. Or do you want to be baptized by men, which only gets you wet, but counts for nothing in God's sight? Water baptism is NOT for this dispensation of the grace of God! The Jews had to bring a blood sacrifice for sin. But, our blood sacrifice, once and for all was the Lord Jesus Christ. From the cross the Lord Jesus Christ said! It is finished!

Ephesians 4:5. One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

Ephesians 4:6. One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

1Corinthians 12:13. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

1Corinthians 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

1Corinthians 11:1. Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Water Baptism is under the law

In the beginning of Paul's ministry, he said, he baptized probably eight souls, but according to 1Corinthians 1:17; God must have shown him that it was unnecessary for the church the body of Christ. God showed Paul that the Holy Spirit would perform the one baptism into  the body of Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ was the baptizer for the little flock, Christ baptized them with, the Holy Spirit, power from on high. This enabled them to speak in tongues and so forth. My friend we should follow our apostle, he has a different message which is not under the law. The body of Christ is baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ.

Understand, water baptism was only for the kingdom believers. My friend they were all Jews and they were all under the law. The body of Christ is not under the law. If the twelve would have completed their great commission, they were told to baptized everyone that believed, and this would put them under the Mosaic law. Aren't you thankful that Christ sent Paul not to baptize but, to preach the gospel of the grace of God?  Actually water baptism was to cleanse and prepare a Jew for the priesthood, when the whole nation would become a nation of priests. Gentiles are not God's kingdom of priests, but the Jews will be!

As a youngster I was told, water baptism was not for salvation, it was an act of obedience, and to be identified with Christ. Well okay! But, how does that square with Acts 2:38? Acts 2:38 says. Repent, and be baptized ever one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, don't miss this! For the remission of sin, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit? The gift of the Holy Spirit was the ability to speak in a language you never learned, touch healing and so on. The sign gifts were with drawn when Israel was set aside, because sign gifts were for the nation of Israel.

But, water baptism was for the remission of sin! Brothers and sisters in Christ, the body of Christ did not receive the gift of the Holy Spirit we were baptized into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit and sealed with the His presence until Christ comes for His church.

Important Instructions

Romans 11:13. For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

Romans 2:16. In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

Romans 16:25. Now to him that is of power to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

Romans 16:26. But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

1Corinthians 11:1. Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

2Corinthians 4:3. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

2Corinthians 4:4. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

1Corinthians 15:1. Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

1Corinthians 15:2. By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

1Corinthians 15:3. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

1Corinthians 15:4. And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

My friend these eleven verses are the most important verses that you will ever read, and they are all from the apostle Paul. The last four verses are the gospel of the grace of God in a nut shell. Study them to show yourselves approved unto God workmen that do not need to be ashamed rightly dividing the Word of Truth.

Questions to ask!

Did Christ send the twelve apostles to baptize before and after the cross? Yes, He Did!

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Mark 16:15. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mark 16:16. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

The twelve were apostles of Israel, and not apostles of the Gentiles, they had to win all Israel first, therefore they could go to the Gentiles, but they did not win Israel. That is why God chose a new and different apostle for the Gentiles, and his name is Paul.

Paul was not sent to baptize

Did Christ send Paul to baptize? No! He did not! Because the Holy Spirit is the baptizer for the church the body of Christ, He baptizes us into the body of Christ and seals us with His presence, until Christ, comes for His church.

1Corinthians 1:17. For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

Ephesians 4:5. One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

1Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Romans 11:13. For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

1Corinthians 11:1. Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Romans 10:17. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

God said. There is one baptism and it is perform by the Holy Spirit at the moment we first believe, without a drop of water. The apostle Paul was sent to preach the gospel of the grace of God, which is the gospel of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery that had been hid in God since the world began) And Paul calls it my gospel. (Romans 16:25). The mystery is that whole body of truth that Christ gave to the apostle Paul alone.

Preach no other Gospel!

Yes! God the Holy Spirit said, preach no other gospel!  Paul was sent only to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery. I hope you can see the difference between Paul's gospel and the gospel the twelve preached. Paul preached the mystery which is found nowhere else in Scripture, it was kept secret hid in the mind of God, until Christ revealed it to the apostle Paul, and sent him to the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. My friend water baptism was set aside by God for Paul's ministry.

Ephesians 4:5, my friend God says, there is only one baptism and it is performed by God the Holy Spirit at the moment of our salvation. The kingdom gospel that Jesus and the twelve preached, was set aside by God until the tribulation begins. As for water baptism, it is unnecessary. My friend we can not follow Christ in water baptism as some say, because, water baptism belongs only to the kingdom church and that is for Jews only. In the tribulation water baptism will be for all who believes

You should understand, the Gentiles were not included in Christ's earthly ministry. Look at Matthew 15:24, where Christ said, I am not sent but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. My friend when you say, Christ came to both Jew and Gentile alike you are calling God a liar.

Matthew 15:24. But He answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

At the time when Christ walked on this earth the Gentiles were without Christ and without God in the world. Ephesians 2:12! But now, from heaven Ephesians 2:13 covers the Gentiles who believes.

Ephesians 2:12. That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

Ephesians 2:13. But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

What must I do to be saved?

Have you read Mark's gospel? Well, what does it say about water baptism? What does this mean?

Mark 16:16. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Doesn't this verse say you must not only believe, but you also must be water baptized to be saved? You do realize that Mark writes by inspiration of the Holy Spirit as well as Paul. Therefore how can you possibly deal with this verse?

That's a very good question, and I'll give you the Berean answer!   Mark is not writing to the church the body of Christ. Mark is writing to and for the kingdom believers. You have to erase any idea from your mind that the gospel of the kingdom and the gospel of the grace of God are the same!

Yes, I understand that it is the same God, but, He has made a dispensational change. Whereas, water baptism is not intended for the church the body of Christ. But water baptism was for the kingdom believers, until now, that was Jews only. However during the tribulation, everyone that believes, must be water baptized.

The Church the body of Christ has a new and different gospel, it is called the gospel of the grace of God, created for the one new man in this new dispensation of the grace of God! This new gospel can not be found in the O.T. neither can it be found in the Four Gospels; it is only found in the writings of the apostle Paul. God sent Paul not to baptize but to preach the gospel of the grace of God! Our dispensation of grace does not require water baptism because we are baptized and sealed by the Holy Spirit without hands or water! In the tribulation the kingdom gospel will be reinstated along with all of the sign gifts.

There will be a different group of men carrying out the great commission during the tribulation, it will be 144,000 young Jewish evangelists, sealed by the Holy Spirit for the work.

Rightly divide the Word of Truth!

In other words separate the gospel of the kingdom from the gospel of the grace of God, also the kingdom church from the body church. Only the twelve were commanded to preach the gospel of the kingdom to every creature, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. In short all nations would have become Jewish proselytes and they would be under the law. But as you know that did not happen!

And Yes, Christ did command the twelve in Mark 16:16 go ye therefore into all the world and preach the gospel of the kingdom to every creature. But, according to Acts 1:8 they had to win all Israel first. But, the Lord Jesus Christ definitely was not speaking to the apostle Paul, Paul was not saved until Acts 9 several years after Pentecost. 1Corinthians 3:10 says it was Paul who laid the foundation for Christ's new church called the body of Christ. It was not Peter at Pentecost!

The foundation that Paul laid, is the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven, that means the church the body of Christ, was not formed at Pentecost. It was formed with the salvation of Saul of Tarsus in Acts 9. If you believe God! This should close the door on Pentecost as being the birth date for the church which is called the body of Christ. Truly we must rightly divide the Word of Truth in order to understand the time line of the Scriptures.

Coverdale's Formula

Miles Coverdale's formula is of great value here. Why is it so difficult to see that all of Christ's commands to the twelve, were under the law? But, His instructions to Paul, from heaven for the church the body of Christ are not under the law. Therefore understand, we have no part in the great commission of the twelve. Frankly because the great commission is not for the church the body of Christ. It's not ours!

You must first understand, the kingdom gospel began with John the Baptist followed by Christ and the twelve. But in Acts 28:28 it was finally set aside by God to await the tribulation, then the kingdom gospel will be reinstated by God and preached in all the world and the end will come. First the church the body of Christ will be removed from planet earth. This will permit the 144,000 young Jewish evangelists, to carry out the great commission. They will most likely follow Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16 and Matthew 24:14.

Matthew 28:19. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Mark 16:16. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Matthew 24:14. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Acts 1:8. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Do not assume that the four verses above were written to the church the body of Christ, truly they were not. Only Paul writes to the church the body of Christ! The verses above will prepare the world for the kingdom during the tribulation. But if any one excepts this teaching during the tribulation it will most likely cost them their lives, but how does a few years here on earth compare with an eternity with God.

Two sets of instructions and
They are not the same!

Christ instructed the twelve, under the Mosaic law, He also gave the twelve the great commission, it too was under the law. Once again only the twelve were given the great commission in accordance with Acts 1:8.  Paul's instructions on the other hand can be found in 2Corinthians 5:16-21, this is under the pure grace of God. Paul also tells us, in 1 Corinthians 1:17 for Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery. And my friend Paul calls these instructions, my gospel.

The Lord Jesus Christ told the twelve to preach the gospel of the kingdom to every creature and to baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. But, He told Paul to preach the gospel of the grace of God and baptize no one. Now do you see the difference! The mystery gospel is from the risen and glorified Lord Jesus Christ in heaven! It is not Christ after the flesh.

Water Baptism is for the Jews
And the tribulation believers

It is important that we understand, water baptism was for the Jews, also for the tribulation believers under the law, baptism is part of the great commission. Brothers and sisters in Christ we the body of Christ have nothing to do with the great commission. I can not say it strong enough; the great commission is not ours, water baptism is not ours it is not for the body of Christ. Paul says, we must rightly divide the Word of Truth.

Please do not be mislead by anyone saying: Paul's helpers baptize in his place, they did not! You may say, but the Lord Jesus Christ was baptized, and I want to follow Him in water baptism. But, Jesus was water baptized to fulfill the law. We have already fulfil the law when we love one another. That is why God did not tell us to follow Jesus as the twelve followed Him. On the other hand, He said, follow Paul as Paul followed Christ. The Lord Jesus was born under the law, His twelve apostles were truly under the law, but, the body of Christ is not under the law.

Actually today no one is under the law, because, God set the law aside to await the tribulation. But for now God says, follow Paul as he followed Christ.

Baptism

When we try to mix law and grace, we are asking for anathema! Have you ever wondered, why it is so hard for folks to understand that the inspired Word of God given to the apostle Paul is different? We must take God at His Word by faith and by faith we must follow Paul as he followed the risen and glorified Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. Peter said, something's of the apostle Paul's message are hard to be understood, because it was not under the law.

Peter, James and the ten at the Jerusalem council agreed, Paul and Barnabas should go to the Gentiles.  James the Lord's half brother and the eleven would stay with the Jews.  My friend this agreement was in Acts 15 the Jews are still under the law and these very same men were still zealous for the law in Acts 21:20. So it is very plain to see they were not preaching Paul's Gospel even though they knew what it was. There is no biblical history that James and the eleven ever went to the Gentiles

Galatians 2:9. And when James, Peter and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

Paul Wrote By Inspiration

We must understand that every word the apostle Paul wrote, came directly from the risen and glorified Lord Jesus Christ in heaven, by revelation. Christ gave us the apostle Paul for a pattern for everlasting life. Look at:

1Timothy 1:16. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

Therefore, God says, we must follow Paul, as he followed the Lord Jesus Christ .

1Corinthians 11:1. Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

The apostle Paul is the only apostle that the Lord Jesus Christ commissioned to write to the church, the body of Christ, which is composed mostly of Gentiles. God said, all of the other Scriptures are for our learning.

Romans 15:4. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

Caution

Don't change Romans 15:4 into 2Timothy 3:7, but, if you neglect the apostle Paul you surely will do just that!

2Timothy 3:7. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

There has always been a huge resistance To Paul's gospel

Sadly, we find a great resistance to Paul's gospel of the grace of God in almost every church that we have attended. And I really don't understand why. They have heard the gospel and say they believe the Scripture, so why can't they accept the fact, Paul is our apostle according to (Romans 11:13). Then according to 1Timothy 1:16 Paul is our pattern for everlasting life. 1Corinthians 3:10 says, Paul is the master builder of Christ's new church, called the body of Christ. And the Scripture clearly says we should take heed how we build upon this foundation because it is from the risen and glorified Lord Jesus Christ in heaven.

1Corinthians 3:10. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

We certainly need to understand that the gospel of the grace of God, is Christ's heavenly gospel that Paul calls my gospel. Furthermore Paul's gospel is the only gospel for the entire world today. Paul called for anathema on anyone preaching any other so called gospel.
By inspiration Paul says let him be accursed. Read these next verses with understanding: Galatians 1:11 and 12 tell us that Paul's gospel is not from man that no man taught Paul and Galatians 1:8 and 9 says, anyone preaching any other gospel, let him be accursed.

Galatians 1:8. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Galatians 1:9. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Galatians 1:10. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

Galatians 1:11. But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.

Galatians 1:12. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Full Knowledge Of The Truth

Romans 11:13. For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

1Corinthians 11:1.
Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Romans 2:16. In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

2Timothy 2:15.
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Did you know that the unsaved world will be judged by Paul's gospel? According to (Romans 2:16). Before the salvation of the apostle Paul. (See Ephesians 2:12-13).

2Thessalonians 3:7. For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;

2Thessalonians 3:9. Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an example unto you to follow us

The lost sheep of the house of Israel

Truly Christ's earthly ministry does not include the Gentiles, it was only for the Nation Israel. Why?

Matthew 15:24. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

The Lord Jesus Christ commanded the 12 apostles go not into the way of the Gentiles.

Matthew 10:5. These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

Matthew 10:6. But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

If you want to please God, then by faith; believe what He says.

Hebrews 11:6. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

By faith follow the apostle Paul as he followed the Lord Jesus Christ, Brothers and sisters in Christ, God said, Paul is our pattern for everlasting life. Hear ye Him.
