How to understand your Bible
Miles Coverdale 1488 to1569

It will help you to understand Scriptures, if you mark not only what is spoken or written, but of whom or to whom, with what words, at what time, where, to what intent, with what circumstances, considering what goes before and what follows after.

Miles Coverdale, was the first man to translate the entire Bible into the English language. While the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is an accurate record of events and sayings of men, we must remember: All Scripture is for me. It is not all addressed to me nor is it written about me.

2Timothy 2:15. Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

William R Newell-1868 to1956

"You can judge any man's preaching or teaching by this rule: Is he Pauline? Does his doctrine start and finish according to those statements of Christian doctrine uttered by the Apostle Paul? No matter how wonderful a man may seem in his gifts and apparent consecration if his Gospel is not Pauline, it is not the Gospel; and we might as well get our minds settled at once as to that."

One Spirit Baptism:

Why, one baptism? 1Corinthians 1:17, Paul said, for Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. Look at 1Corinthians 12:13 and Ephesians 4:5 these two verses really leave no doubt as to why we do not baptize. My friend believe what the Bible says.

In this dispensation of the grace of God, according to 1Corinthians 12:13, the Holy Spirit performs the one baptism. God said, 1Corinthians 11:1, follow Paul as he follows Christ. According to 1Corinthians 12:13, The Holy Spirit  does all of the baptizing for the church the body of Christ without water, so follow Paul as he followed Christ and do not accept water baptism. With that verse alone how can any man say water baptism is still part of the salvation message. Brothers and sisters in Christ listen to God not to men.

Do you want to be baptized one time by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ. Or by men, which will only get you wet, but counts for nothing in God's sight? Water baptism is NOT for this dispensation of the grace of God!

Ephesians 4:5. One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

Ephesians 4:6. One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

1Corinthians 12:13. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

1Corinthians 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

Water Baptism is under the law

In the beginning of his ministry, Paul said that he baptized probably eight persons, but according to 1Corinthians 1:17; God must have shown him that it was unnecessary for the church the body of Christ. God showed Paul that the Holy Spirit would perform the one baptism into  the body of Christ. Paul understood, that he was only to preach the gospel of the grace of God.

Water baptism was only for the kingdom believers, and they were all Jews under the law. The body of Christ is not under the law. If the twelve would have completed their great commission, they were told to baptized everyone that believed putting them under the Mosaic law. Aren't you thankful Christ sent Paul not to baptize but, to preach the gospel of the grace of God?

Directions

Romans 11:13. For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

1Corinthians 11:1. Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

2Corinthians 4:3. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

2Corinthians 4:4. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Here's a couple questions you should ask of yourself,
then you should check the Scriptures for the correct answers.

1. Did Christ send the twelve apostles to baptize? Yes, He Did!

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Mark 16:15. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mark 16:16. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

The twelve apostles are Israel's apostles only, they did not win all Israel first, therefore they could not go to the Gentiles. So God gave the Gentiles a different apostle, the apostle Paul.

2. Did Christ send Paul to baptize? No! He did not! Because the Holy Spirit baptizes us into the body of Christ and seals us with His presence, until He comes for His church.

1Corinthians 1:17. For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

Ephesians 4:5. One Lord, one faith, one baptism, (UNITY)

1Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Romans 11:13. For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

1Corinthians 11:1. Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

God said, there is one baptism and it is performed by the Holy Spirit the moment that we believe without a drop of water. The apostle Paul was sent to preach the gospel of the grace of God, which is the gospel of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery that had been hid in God since the world began) And Paul calls it my gospel. (Romans 16:25. The mystery is that whole body of truth given to the apostle Paul alone.

Paul Calls It, My Gospel

Romans 16:25. Now to him that is of power to establish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

Romans 16:26. But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

1Corinthians 15:1. Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

1Corinthians 15:2. By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

1Corinthians 15:3. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

1Corinthians 15:4. And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Romans 10:9 was written specifically to the Jews that were among the Gentiles.

Romans 10:9. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Understand If Paul's Gospel is hid

2Corinthians 4:3. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

2Corinthians 4:4. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

I trust, you understand that without Paul's gospel, you are forever lost, because the god of this world, Satan has blinded your mind.

Brothers and Sisters In Christ,
We must Preach Paul's Gospel!

Yes! Paul was sent only to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery. I hope you can see the difference between Paul's gospel and the gospel the twelve preached. The gospel that Paul preached is mentioned nowhere else in Scripture, it was kept secret until Christ revealed it to Paul, and chose him to go to the Gentiles. Water baptism was set aside by God for Paul's ministry. Ephesians 4:5, my friend says there is only one baptism and it is performed by God the Holy Spirit at the moment of our salvation.

The kingdom gospel that Jesus and the twelve preached, was set aside by God until the tribulation begins. As for water baptism, it is unnecessary. My friend we can not follow Christ in water baptism as some say, because, water baptism belongs only to the kingdom gospel and that is for Jews only. Understand Gentiles were not included in Christ's earthly ministry, because Christ was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel to fulfill the promises made to the fathers.

Matthew 15:24. But He answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Ephesians 2:12. That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

Ephesians 2:13. But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Let me repeat, The body of Christ does not need to be water baptized by men! The Holy Spirit has baptized us into the body of Christ without water. Some say You have got to be kidding!

how can you be saved?

Read Mark's gospel, what does it say about water baptism? If you are right then tell me what this means?

Mark 16:16. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Doesn't this verse say you have to be water baptized to be saved? You do realize that Mark writes by inspiration of the Holy Spirit as well as Paul. Therefore how can you possibly deal with this verse in that way?

Well, I am very glad you asked, and it's a good question too, I'll give you a short and simple answer. Mark is not writing to the church the body of Christ. Mark writes to and for the dispensation of law which is the gospel of the kingdom. The gospel of the kingdom and the gospel of the grace of God are quite different! Yes, I know it is the same God, but He has made a dispensational change.

Whereas, water baptism is not intended for the church the body of Christ. But water baptism is for the kingdom gospel, and that means it was for Jews only until the tribulation.

The Church the body of Christ has a new and different gospel, it is called the gospel of the grace of God, created for the one new man in this new dispensation of the grace of God! This new gospel can not be found in the O.T. it can not be found in the Four Gospels; it is only found in the writings of the apostle Paul. God sent Paul not to baptize but to preach the gospel! Our dispensation of grace does not require water baptism because we are baptized and sealed by the Holy Spirit without hands or water!

In the dispensation of law, the Lord Jesus Christ told the twelve, go ye therefore, into all the world, and preach the gospel of the kingdom to every creature, beginning at Jerusalem baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This command will be carried out during the tribulation, it is not for the church the body of Christ.

The apostle Paul told Timothy to rightly divide the Word of Truth. In other words separate the gospel of the kingdom from the gospel of the grace of God. Only the twelve were commanded to preach the gospel of the kingdom to every creature, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. In short all nations would become Jewish proselytes and they would be under the law.

And Yes, Christ did command the twelve in Mark 16:16 go ye therefore into all the world and preach the gospel of the kingdom to every creature. But, according to Acts 1:8 they had to win all Israel first. But, the Lord Jesus Christ definitely was not speaking to the apostle Paul, Paul was not saved until Acts 9 which was several years after Pentecost.

It was Paul who laid the foundation for Christ's new church called the body of Christ. It was not Peter! The foundation that is laid is the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven, that means that the church the body of Christ, was not formed until after Paul's salvation in Acts 9. And yes, that closes the door on Pentecost as being the birth of the church which is called the body of Christ. Truly we must rightly divide the Word of Truth in order to understand the time line of the Scriptures.

Miles Coverdale's formula would be of great value here. Why is it so difficult to see that all of Christ's commands here on earth, to the twelve, were under the law? But, His instructions from heaven to Paul, for the church the body of Christ are not under the law. Therefore, we have no part in the great commission of the twelve. Frankly because the great commission is not ours.

The kingdom gospel that began with John the Baptist was set aside by God to wait for the tribulation to begin, then the kingdom gospel will be reinstated and preached in all the world during the tribulation. But first the church the body of Christ must be removed from planet earth. Then 144,000 young Jewish missionaries, will carry out the great commission. They will most likely follow Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16 and Matthew 24:14. It will not be the gospel that Paul preached.

Matthew 28:19. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Mark 16:16. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Matthew 24:14. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Acts 1:8. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Caution

May I caution you, you must not assume that the four verses above are written for the church the body of Christ, because they are not; Only Paul writes to the church the body of Christ! These verses are to prepare the world for the kingdom during the tribulation. If any one excepts or believes this teaching during the tribulation it will most likely cost them their lives, but what is a few years on earth as compared to eternity in heaven.

We must all try to understand that the Great commission is part of the kingdom gospel that Christ gave the twelve. Go ye is a command, it is not just a request? Christ told the twelve to preach the gospel of the kingdom to every creature baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, but they had to win Israel first.

The Lord Jesus Christ sent Paul not to Baptize, but to preach the gospel of the grace of God, not the gospel of the kingdom. My friend can you see the difference here? Jesus and the twelve preached the gospel of the kingdom and baptized. Paul and his helpers preached the gospel of the grace of God and they did not baptize. Do you see, that there are two gospels and they are completely different.

Think not that Paul's gospel is just an option for you and me, my friend it is the only gospel for the entire world today!  I pray that you can understand that? If not, take another look at 2Corinthians 4:3-4, because verses three and four are not just space holders between verses two and five they are critical to our salvation. We must believe the gospel that Paul preached: 1Corinthians 15:1-4, is the basic gospel. Read these verses slow for understanding!

2Corinthians 4:3. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost.

2Corinthians 4:4. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Christ's instructions to the twelve, and to Paul:
Are not the same!

Christ's instructions to the twelve were under the Mosaic law, they were also given the great commission, it too is under the law. The twelve were commanded to carry out their great commission in accordance with Acts 1:8.  Paul's instructions on the other hand are under the pure grace of God. Paul tells us, in 1 Corinthians 1:17 for Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery. And my friend Paul calls it, my gospel.

The Lord Jesus Christ told the twelve to preach the gospel of the kingdom to every creature and to baptize everyone. But, He told Paul to preach the gospel of the grace of God and baptize no one. Now do you see the difference! The mystery gospel comes from the risen and glorified Lord Jesus Christ in heaven! Again it is not part of Christ's earthly ministry, which is called Christ after the flesh

Baptism is for the Jews

It is important to understand that water baptism is a Jewish ritual and it is under the law, it is part of the great commission. Brothers and sisters in Christ we the body of Christ have nothing to do with the great commission. I can not say it strong enough; the great commission is not ours, water baptism is not for the body of Christ, again, it is not ours. Paul says, rightly divide the Word of Truth.

Please do not be misguided by the person who says: Paul's helpers baptize in his place, they did not! You may say, but the Lord Jesus Christ was baptized, and I want to follow Him in water baptism. But, Jesus was water baptized to fulfill the law. We have already fulfil the law when we love one another. That is why God did not tell us to follow Jesus as the twelve followed Him. But, He said, follow Paul as Paul followed Christ. The Lord Jesus was born under the law, His twelve apostles were truly under the law, but, the body of Christ is not under the law.

Today no one can follow the law, because, God has set it aside to await the tribulation. In the mean time, followed follow Paul.

Water Baptism and the law

When we mix law and grace, we are asking for anathema! Have you ever wondered, why it is so hard for folks to see and understand that the inspired Word of God given to the apostle Paul is different? We must take God at His Word by faith and by faith we must follow Paul as he followed the risen and glorified Lord Jesus Christ. Peter said, something's of the apostle Paul's message are hard to be understood, because it was not under the law.

Don't forget Peter and the ten at the Jerusalem council agreed, Paul and Barnabas should go to the Gentiles and they would stay with the Jews. In Scripture that has never changes.

Galatians 2:9. And when James, Peter and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

Paul Wrote By Inspiration

We must realize that every word the apostle Paul wrote, came directly from the risen and glorified Lord Jesus Christ in heaven by revelation. Christ gave us the apostle Paul for a pattern for everlasting life. Look at:

1Timothy 1:16. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

Therefore, God says, we must follow Paul, as he followed the Lord Jesus Christ .

1Corinthians 11:1. Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

The apostle Paul is the only one that the Lord Jesus Christ commissioned to write to church the body of Christ, which is composed mostly of Gentiles. God said, the other Scriptures are for our learning.

Romans 15:4. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

There is a huge resistance To Paul's gospel

Sadly, there is a huge resistance to Paul's gospel in almost every church that I have attended. And I really don't understand why. If they have heard the gospel and they believe the Scriptures then why can't they accept the fact, Paul is our apostle according to (Romans 11:13). Then according to 1Timothy 1:16 Paul is our pattern for everlasting life. Understand, 1Corinthians 3:10 says, Paul is the master builder of Christ's new church, called the body of Christ. Again we must understand, the foundation is the Lord Jesus Christ risen and glorified.

1Corinthians 3:10. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

We certainly should understand that the gospel of the grace of God, is Christ's new gospel it is the gospel that Paul calls my gospel. Furthermore this gospel is the only gospel for the world and the body of Christ today. Paul called for anathema on anyone preaching any other so called gospel.

Galatians 1:8. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Galatians 1:9. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Galatians 1:10. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

Galatians 1:11. But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.

Galatians 1:12. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

How do we Come To The Knowledge Of The Truth

Romans 11:13. For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

2Timothy 2:15. Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

1Corinthians 11:1. Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Romans 15:4. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

But, my friend be careful not to turn Romans 15:4 into 2Timothy 3:7.

2Timothy 3:7. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

If we neglect the teachings of the apostle Paul we are bound to suffer this curse! Did you know that the unsaved world will be judged by Paul's gospel? According to (Romans 2:16). Before the apostle Paul was saved and appointed as the apostle of the Gentiles. (See Ephesians 2:12-13).

Ephesians 2:12. That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

But now!

Ephesians 2:13. But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

2Thessalonians 3:7. For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;

2Thessalonians 3:9. Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an example unto you to follow us

Christ was sent only to the house of Israel

Truly Christ's earthly ministry did not include the Gentiles, it was only to and for the Nation Israel.

Matthew 15:24. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

The Lord Jesus Christ commanded the 12 apostles go not into the way of the Gentiles.

Matthew 10:5. These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

Matthew 10:6. But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

If you want to please God, then by faith; believe what He says.

Hebrews 11:6. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Therefore by faith let's follow the apostle Paul as he follows Christ, God said, Paul is our pattern for everlasting life.
