1. How does TMDA work?
TMDA blocks your spam by implementing a "Challenge-Response" blocking method. When an unrecognized person sends an email to you, TMDA will automatically send an email back to that person to verify they are a "real person". Once the person verifies their address, it will remember that person allowing them to email you without disruption from then on. Verifying an address is easy - they simply select "Reply" to the email that TMDA sends to them and send it back. If no one sends a reply back, the email is then held in a pending list (you can check and allow mail from here as well) stopping it from being released into your mail client. The main reason that TMDA is so effective is that spammers often send their SPAM from fake email addresses - thus, when TMDA sends the challenge, the spammer never has a chance to answer TMDA's challenge, and you are never bothered by the SPAM.
2. Can I add people to my whitelist?
Yes you are able to log into the TMDA interface and add addresses manually to avoid them having to deal with the challenge email that is sent out by TMDA.
3. How do I add an address to my whitelist?
Log into the TMDA interface on our home page. Click "Lists" to the left, and click "Whitelist". You will see a box on the right hand side. Add your email address to this box. Make sure you have one address per line. If you wish to whitelist a whole domain (that means anyone from that domain can get to you) type it in like this aol.com (no @ or username) Click save at the bottom.
4. Can I check TMDA for email I think might be trapped?
Yes, you can log into the TMDA interface and browse through the trapped email and release things you might want. You have the choice to release them one time, or to add that person to your whitelist so they will be able to get through to you every time. To let an email through one time, click the "Radio" button (the dot) to be underneath the checkmark for each email you want to let through. To whitelist a person in the pending list, place the "dot" underneath the icon of the sheet of paper, and TMDA will whitelist that person.
5. Do I just log into the TMDA interface to check my mail from now on?
No. the TMDA interface is where the email considered to be "SPAM" resides. Your normal email will continue to come to your email client such as usual.
6. How do I release a piece of mail I want from TMDA?
Log into the TMDA interface on our home page. You will see your pending list right away. (All the email that TMDA has trapped) Locate the category lists at the top of your list under the "Execute" button. The check mark category will allow you to release the mail you chose one time only. The X will delete it and the piece of paper category will allow you to release that piece of mail and it will write it to the whitelist so it will be able to come through every time. Select the empty radio button next to the piece of mail you want to handle under the correct category and click "Execute" at the top. The action you have chosen will be preformed. Log out of TMDA and check your regular email client!
