Webmail Login Change:
by Tech Aaron, Internet Specialist
Red Shift has completed security upgrades to the Webmail server. You now have to use your E-mail address to login instead of just your user name. We were forced to make this change due to security concerns. The hardware has also been upgraded to twice the memory and twice the speed of the previous system.

Network Upgrades:
by Karl Van Lear, Chief Executive Officer
In the past three months Red Shift has added additional bandwidth in our operations centers. Red Shift now has three separate fiber connections to the Internet. We have also increased the number of servers handling E-mail. We have added six new powerful CPUs to handle the virus scanning of the millions of messages processed by our E-mail systems. We are not stopping there, further upgrades are planned for our networks and will be announced in future newsletter.

Internet Browser Security Tip:
by Tech Aaron, Internet Specialist
Make sure to always check for the latest Internet browser updates. Many spyware and virus programs enter your computer through your Internet browser. An attacker could exploit vulnerabilities by convincing a user to view or accept a specially crafted HTML document, such as a web page or an HTML E-mail message. If you use the Microsoft version, Internet Explorer, your automatic software updates should address those vulnerabilities. If you use a third party browser like Opera, Safari, Firefox, etc, you have to be more vigilant in upgrading your browser because it is not always automatic.

Red Shift is Now a Certified Green Business!
by Tony Cricelli, Chief Technology Officer
Red Shift is proud to announce that it has been officially certified as a Green Business by the Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program. We are thrilled to be one of the first ISPs in California to be certified “green” and that we have been recognized for doing our part to improve energy efficiency and conservation in all of our network operating centers.
