Club Fuel Purchase Please read Chuck Messamer’s President’s column on
page 3 to find out about a large discount purchase of glow fuel. You
can then check out page 7 and see a table that will show you the prices
plus a 10% club discount.
Contests There are 3 contests coming to the Wavemaster field. In April on the 16th and 17th we have an IMAC contest, which will have Sean D. Tucker flying his full scale modified Pitts and also The Stars of Tomorrow. In May on the 21st and 22nd we will have a pattern contest. Finally in September on the 10th and 11th we will have The Second Annual Bob Whitacre Memorial Pattern Contest.
Sean D. Tucker If you missed the IMAC contest from last year with a noon show by Sean D. Tucker flying his full scale modified Pitts Special, then you can make up for it on April 17th at noon. Dave Stoik is the Contest Director and the one responsible for bringing this event to the Club. Ask yourself how many clubs in the Unites States have Sean D. Tucker flying his plane 500 feet off their runway. Well, the answer is zero. Next time you see Dave give him a thank you.
Dues Dues are due on January 1st. If you let your dues lapse the assessment of $40 will be required if you rejoin after a year. Flying on someone else’s card is not an option.
Volunteers As you can see from the cover photo, Sean D. Tucker will be performing for the IMAC contest on April 17th, but we need volunteers. If you can help on April 16th and 17th it would be greatly appreciated. We need volunteers for the barbeque, for parking control and for help with the contest. If you can, please contact Chuck Messamer or Dave Stoik. Remember we have two more contests this year so please keep in mind that the club makes money from these events that helps pay off the debt from our resurfacing of the runway.
President’s
Corner
Greetings to all in this New Year of 2005. Overall 2004 was a good year
for the Wavemasters. I think everyone has enjoyed our first full year
with the new smooooth runway. The new runway doesn’t make it any easier
to land or takeoff. Maybe that will be the next new thing in computer
radios. An automatic GPS takeoff and landing system with autopilot!
This is how your flight might go. You fuel (glow/gas power) or charge
(electric power) your plane, start the motor and taxi to the runway
centerline, push the automatic takeoff button, watch the plane takeoff
and gain altitude, turn on the autopilot. Then you sit down with your
flying buddies for ten minutes or so and solve all the worlds’
problems. Then you get up and walk back to the flight line to taxi the
plane off the runway. Isn’t that a horrible thought? That would take
all the fun and challenge out RC flying.
We had three very successful contests last year. Dave Stoik put together the Spring IMAC contest with a Sunday full-scale demo by Shawn D Tucker. That event drew more contestants and spectators to our field than any other event at the Wavemasters at the Hollister location. Dave has an IMAC contest scheduled for April 16 & 17, 2005. If you missed last years contest come out this year and watch some of the best IMAC pilots and a full-scale aerobatics demo.
Jerry Ferwerda and Jonathan Carter had two great pattern contests last year and have two scheduled for this year. The first one will be May 21 & 22. Then September 10 & 11 will be the second annual Bob Whitacre Memorial Pattern Contest. It is great to have Jerry and Jonathan to continue the pattern events that Bob Whitacre organized in the past. I encourage you to come out and support these events as either a spectator or a participant. If you have never entered a pattern contest talk to any off the pattern or IMAC flyers and they can get you the information needed to get started.
Just a reminder to all those that haven’t paid their dues for 2005. YOU ARE LATE. Dues are supposed to be paid by January 1. We didn’t get a newsletter out before January to remind everyone. As a result some of you probably forgot. So those of you that forgot please send a check and proof of AMA membership to Kevin Beatty. For those of you that are new to the club I thought I should explain our due policy. If you joined the club or were a member of the club in 2004 your dues are $110 for 2005 regardless of when you pay your dues in 2005. If you don’t pay your dues for 2005 and decide you want to get back in the club in 2006 you will have to pay the $110 plus a $40 new member fee.
We had an election meeting November 13. There were 13 ballots turned in and the incumbents were unanimously re-elected. Myself as President; Dan Dematteis, Vice President; Kevin Beatty, Secretary-Treasurer; Rich Cassatta and Greg Budde, Board of Directors.
Are you tired of paying$18 to $22 a gallon for good quality YS/Saito fuel? Since I started flying my Dave Patrick Supper Cub with a YS 140 I’ve been going through almost a gallon of Power Master YS/Saito 20/20 @ $22 a gallon everyday I fly. I really enjoy flying the Supper Cub but I don’t like paying the fuel bill. Dennis Kanemura was out with his YS power pattern plane several weeks ago and I asked what fuel he used. He has been using Magnum fuel for 5 years and is very satisfied with it. He said that he and Jonathan Carter and Jerry Ferwerda order directly from Magnum Fuel in large enough quantities to get it for $12.50 a gallon including shipping cost. I told Dennis that I would be interested in getting in on their next order and that there were other club members that might be interested. They are planning on making a purchase at the end of February. Look at the product/price list in this newsletter. I called Magnum Fuel and found that they give AMA Chartered Clubs an additional 10% discount. So look at the 16+ cases price and take another 10% off. There are four gallons per case and they will mix different blends in a case. If you are interested in buying Magnum fuel let me know as soon as possible so we can get an order in by the end of February. If you have e-mail you can reach me at .
That’s all for now. Be safe and I’ll see you at the field.

Board Meeting October 23, 3004
Members Present: Chuck Messamer, Grant Bright, Kevin Beatty, Rich Cassata, Paul Tomaszewski and Dan Dematteis
Agenda:
1 Runway Seal
2 Work Day
3 New Sign
4 Elections
Chuck Messamer has spoken to Bruce Riechers about runway sealant. The estimated cost is $225.00 for 100 gals to do runway. Two weeks of dry weather is required before sealant can be applied. Availability of equipment would be better during middle of weeks. Rich, Grant, Kevin volunteered to be available as needed to help with work. Grant motioned for the purchase of sealant and paint for striping, this was seconded by Rich and approved by all.
Sugestion made to combine work day with elections. All agreed this was preferred. Election procedures were outlined to allow write in candidates on day of election and to print ballots for the newsletter listing agreeable incumbents.
Rich Cassata agreed to get cost of materials to repair pit shade. Motion was made by Rich to purchase materials up to $250.00 for repairs. Second was made by Grant and all agreed.
Date for Election was decided as November 13, 2004
Kevin Beatty presented treasury information.
Cash in bank $6010.91
Estimated rent $2725.00
Loans to Members $4000.00
Condition of driveway and large potholes was raised. Kevin agreed for his company to provide 2 transfer loads of rock to repair the large potholes. He estimated that he could get the materials delivered and come out to spread it within the next couple of weeks.
The issue of the new sign was deferred to a later meeting. There was a discussion regarding possible temporary repairs of the existing sign, but no action was taken.
Club Meeting Saturday November 13, 2004
14 members present. Chuck Messamer called the meeting to order.
Old business:
No change in treasury report since October Board Meeting.
Board Meeting minutes not yet published for review and acceptance.
Still waiting for 2 weeks dry weather to do runway sealing.
New Business:
Jeff Bright noticed that first-aid supplies are getting low. Possibly ask for donated supplies from members.
More discussion on condition of sign at highway. Possible material and option of two signs that could be seen from both directions were discussed. Updating of content on sign also needed to reflect contact's and web address. Action was deferred until spring.
Discussion of cows getting onto the field thru hole in fence was discussed. A week point adjacent to the gate was spotted and Chuck M. agreed to hold an informal work party to try and reinforce this spot.
Rich Cassata made a motion to adjourn the meeting, this was seconded by Jeff Bright.
Club purchase of bulk glow fuel
If you wish to be part of the club’s group purchase of magnum fuel then you can select a type of fuel from the list below and tell either Chuck Messamer or Kevin Beatty of the amount and type of fuel. We need case orders. A case consists of 4 jugs and each jug is 1 gallon. If you wish to purchase less than a case you need to find someone else to split the case with. You can check with Chuck or Kevin and see if either knows of someone else willing to split a case. A case can consist of mixed fuel types, anotherwords you can have a case of 2 jugs of 10% nitro and 2 jugs of 15% nitro. We are pretty sure we will go past the 16 case limit and you can probably use that as a guide to fuel price plus we will get a club discount of 10%. You can go to the Magnum Fuels website at www.magnumfuels.com to check Magnum Fuels out. Chuck and Kevin will need the money for your purchase up front. The pattern guys at the field have been using this fuel and you might check with them about their opinion of it.
