PURPOSE OF SECTION

This section is meant to provide a space for working real issues needed to start moving this world toward UTOPIA ... or at least to something that fosters the expression of utopian ideas in a practical way. The hope is to truly make this a collaborative effort with people working closely together each month to come up with something special for this section.

SOME QUESTIONS TO START WITH

Can we create a better world, a utopia on Earth? Do we want to? If we do, what keeps us from doing it? Why do we resist change? These questions have no certain answer, but everyone has an opinion. Here's mine. I invite YOU to express your own.

SOME INITIAL ANSWERS

Our days are numbered. With each day gone forever, we are not inclined to believe we can do better.The fearful, the compulsive, the neurotic cling to disability because they cannot bring themselves to face the waste of life implicit in changing their patterns. To believe we hold the key to our prison means we have no one to blame but ourselves for the time we waste. We endorse hierarchy because we want the irresponsibility of claiming we followed orders at the same time we harbor the hope we or our children will "make it".

Collectively we face the same choices. We resist utopian solutions because the lives and limbs lost to atrocity are too horrible to blame on ourselves. A reason for the explosion of child abuse and pornography may be a perception of the technological future as brighter than anything adults will know. Ours is the first human era involved in rapid change. Until recently growing old meant knowing the gamut of social possibility. It brought respect for the wisdom of the aged, not scorn for their being hopelessly out of it.
